Maureen GreweThe University of South Carolina’s Social Justice Awards recognize individuals who exemplify the philosophies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through random or ongoing acts of community service, social justice or racial reconciliation. Junior League of Columbia member Maureen Grewe has been named a 2019 recipient of this honor due to her work with JLC.

Maureen is the chair of the ABCs of Healthy Children Committee, an event that provides an apple, book, coat and shoes for hundreds of children annually (537 in 2018!). She is also the recipient of the JLC’s 2016-2017 Katharine Heath Manning Perry Award, which recognizes an active member in good standing who has excelled in community voluntarism and activism, through her JLC placements and through extensions of her JLC work and training.

“To me, social justice means using our talents in concert with others to help those less fortunate than us,” Maureen says. “Working to better our communities by giving of our time and resources creates a lasting impact on the individuals we interact with and our community as a whole.”

Congratulations, Maureen! Thank you for all you do to impact children and families in the Midlands!
