The Carolina sun was bright, and hues of orangey reds reflected off of the Dale Chihuly chandelier –a night to remember! On April 13th, the Junior League of Columbia (JLC) held the Centennial Gala at the Columbia Museum of Art to celebrate the last 100 years of the League and how it has impacted the surround areas ever since. Music was provided by The Root Doctors and personal portrait drawings were completed by United in Paint; both added a fun flair to the event and made it that much more enjoyable.  Not to be outdone, the Junior League of Columbia greatly appreciates Loose Culinaire for fine catering, Twisted Bartending for the delicious drinks, and Megan Manus Photography for capturing the event through her camera lens. The League would also like to thank its Centennial Committee for the planning the Centennial Gala as it would not be possible without them.

Founded in 1924 by Katharine Heath Manning Perry (Mrs. James Y. Perry), the Junior League of Columbia originally consisted of ten members and quickly grew to around thirty women before being inducted into the Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 1925.  Ever since, the League has maintained its commitment to volunteerism, diversity and inclusion, and community impact through various special projects and financial support in the Midlands.

To celebrate the 50th, 60th, and 75th years of existence, the League has released cookbooks! Years in the making, this 100th year milestone was also highlighted with the creation of a cookbook, “Setting the Table, The Centennial Collection.”  This latest cookbook features a collection of recipes from Members, a special cocktail section, a Kids in the Kitchen Committee nutrition section, and more.  Special thanks to the Cookbook Committee who spearheaded this project and all others who also contributed!  To purchase a cookbook: click the link below: Store Detail (jlcolumbia.org)

It is an undeniable truth that both the founding Members and subsequent Members of the Junior League of Columbia have shared a common goal of serving the Midlands. The foundation established by Perry and friends has been instrumental in this endeavor and the JLC cannot wait to see what the next 100 years of service bring.
