JLC Gets Creative! Drive-In Movie and a Meeting

posted on

Similar to the constant change in many areas of life this past year, the Junior League of Columbia has also had to adapt.

Thankfully, our members are resilient and extremely creative! Our General Membership Meeting committee came up with a plan to host a meeting safely in February at the State Fairgrounds for a drive-in movie. The goal of the event was to provide members with an “in-person” gathering in a Covid-friendly environment. After exploring a few options in Columbia, the committee decided on the SC State Fairgrounds after learning they hosted a similar drive-in last fall and their staff were more than happy to work with the JLC in the absence of our Holiday Market in 2020. ACS Sound & Lighting provided the A/V set up which included an FM transmitter to produce the audio through a vehicle’s radio station – a modern approach to the classic drive-in experience!

Members voted on the film choice, Bridesmaids and Cromers P-Nuts supplied the buttery popcorn that was in high demand throughout the event. Members also enjoyed sweets and a beverage to complete their movie concession needs! About 100 members in 75 vehicles, attended the event.

We are so thankful that even in a pandemic, members could take advantage of a non-traditional Junior League outing for the night! We love our League and our members!
