The fourth annual Slam Dunk Back to School Bash hosted by the Junior League of Columbia and the Ray Tanner Foundation was held at Eau Claire High School on Aug. 11. This one-day event helped prepare 288 students enrolled in five Richland One elementary schools for the 2018-2019 school year. The event was open to students from Arden, Edward E. Taylor, Forest Heights, Hyatt Park, and JP Thomas. Of the 288 students who attended, 128 received dental screenings, 118 received vision screenings, and 102 received hearing screenings. In addition to the health screenings, the students were provided with new school clothing, age appropriate books, healthy snacks, and they were given the opportunity to participate in activities promoting health and wellness. Twenty-four community partners were present at the event to provide information and services and to assist with making this school year successful for the students and families. Everyone had a blast!

League member and DMD, Sarah Anne Knowlton, volunteered her time to provide dental screenings at the event this year.

Students enjoyed picking out a new back-to-school outfit.

Each student got to choose four books to take home.
