Done in a Day

For each Done in a Day (DIAD) project, Junior League of Columbia (JLC) members assist local organizations or social service agencies through hands-on volunteer work. A suitable project would allow volunteers to work a three- to four-hour shift on a one time basis.

June 2, 2012       Storyfest SC
Storyfest SC is a day filled with family friendly events including author presentations, storytelling sessions with local storytellers, crafts, face painting, visits from popular characters, and a Readers Theater presentation.
   
October 14, 2012 Healthy Learners of the Midland's "Here's to Your Health" Baskets
Healthy Learners assembles baskets filled with toothbrushes, floss, band-aids, and other supplies to give to local nurses and teachers.  These baskets serve as a reminder for these professionals to refer children to the program who do not have access to basic health care services and supplies.
   
October 26, 2012 St. Lawrence Place Halloween Party
St. Lawrence Place is a 30-home community where homeless families can find skills and shelter that foster independence and free them from the grip of poverty.
   
November 10, 2012 The Therapy Place Fall Festival
The Therapy Place's mission is to provide traditional and innovative therapies and recreational opportunities for the special needs child in an environment that is family-friendly, to include resources and education for the parents/caregivers.
 
December 8, 2012 Girls on the Run 5K
Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. 
   
December 13, 2012 Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program
The Salvation Army helps aid needy individuals and families during the holidays by providing them food and presents that have been donated.
   
February 16, 2013 EdVenture Dental Health Fair
During "Take Heart and Smile" month, EdVenture hosts a Dental Health Fair event that features free dental screenings along with heart healthy snacks, activities for children of all ages, and even Zumbatomic.

Dickerson Center for Children Doctor's Exam Room Renovation
From administering mental and physical healthcare to assisting with complicated legal matters, Dickerson Center for Children provides comprehensive support and resources for children who have been physically or sexually abused.
   
March 2, 2013 The Cinderella Project 
The Cinderella Project gathers donations of gently worn formal gowns, shoes, and accessories for socially and economically disadvantaged high school students. These students are invited to attend a boutique held in the spring to "shop" for a dress and other items at no cost.
   
April 17, 2013 CASA Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
CASA's mission is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Richland Family Court by providing quality volunteer and legal representation to ensure ever child a safe and permanent, nurturing home.
   
April 27, 2013 Gilbert Middle School Green Team
The Gilbert Middle School Green Team aids in the gardening needs of the school.
   
May 8, 2013 Girls on the Run Coaches Boxes 
Teams of volunteer coaches facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum with groups of girls between 3rd and 8th grade over the course of 10 to 12 weeks.   The program teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons, and running games.

Hannah House Renovations
Hannah House gives hope to those without by teaching the life skills necessary to succeed in our society and to create a foundation in Jesus Christ.  Their vision is to create a self-sufficient woman capable of caring for her children and building a future for her family.
   
May 26, 2013 Sistercare Room Update
Sistercare is a program of services for battered women and their children residing in Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties in South Carolina.
